First broadcast Autumn 1978

 

Penhros Court, Lyonshall, Kington, Herefordshire.  Interviews with proprietor and occasional brewer Martin Griffiths, Campaign for Real Ale Director John Salter, and landlady Bobby Downing, Fox & Hounds, Stoddesdon, Shropshire.  One of the first micros in England, it opened in 1972, sadly, the old beerhouse finally closed its doors, 3 December 2000.

A number of beers were also bottled, and are now quite collectable.

 

Penhros Court Brewery and Restaurant opened in 1977 and closed in December 1983.

Programme Two:  26.30
First broadcast in the Midlands, 31 May 1976
and repeated in Manchester in 1977.

 

Llanthony Abbey, Llanthony Priory, Crucorney, Gwent.  This programme is more a holiday break with good food and beer.  The bar is in the cellar of the Priory, with the barrels racked on the stillage behind.  The Abbey is popular with tourists. 

 

Interviews were recorded with licensees and hosts Lawrence and Sue Fancourt. CAMRA members John Salter from the Black Country, and Allen Kellett, Manchester.
